Student Visa Interview Preparation: A 7-Day Plan Built on 10 Questions and 5 Scores
Prepare against the five things officers actually score
Interview preparation guides usually hand you a pile of sample questions. The structure underneath matters more. Our Visa Interview Simulator is built the way officers listen: 10 questions, each scored 0 to 3 on the dimension it tests, for a run total of 0 to 30. The five dimensions are study plan, funding, ties, consistency and delivery. The bands are printed on the verdict: 24 to 30 Interview-ready, 15 to 23 Nearly there, 0 to 14 Risky right now. They are practice bands from this rubric, not a prediction of any real decision, and the plan below spends each day on the dimensions in the order officers weigh them.
Days 1 to 3: study plan, then funding, then ties
Day 1 and 2 belong to study plan: why this course, why this university, why this country, answered in plain sentences that agree with your application file, because consistency is scored separately and contradictions cost more than polish earns. Day 3 is funding: who pays, from what source, with documents that match the story, the same figures your I-20 or CAS carries. Day 4 is ties: the specific people, property, work or plans that pull you home, stated as facts rather than promises. Each day ends with a timed run of that dimension's questions only.
Days 4 to 7: full runs, the weakest dimension, and the fee you already paid
Day 5 is the first full 10-question run under time pressure; write down the five dimension scores, not just the total. Day 6 repairs only the weakest dimension, then reruns the full set. Day 7 is a single final run and logistics: passport, I-20, DS-160 confirmation, SEVIS receipt, financial documents, the same checklist discipline the application itself demanded. By then you have also already spent the money this process charges: $535 in United States fees alone ($185 application plus $350 SEVIS), which is the practical argument for preparing like it counts.
Run the plan in the simulator
The simulator runs the same 10 questions across three tracks, United States F-1, United Kingdom credibility and general practice, and returns the dimension scores this plan is built on; Canada and Australia usually assess on paper, which the start screen states plainly. Two full interviews are free each day. Start your day 1 run on the blog index version of this plan's companion guides, or go straight to the Visa Interview Simulator.
